Georgian MIA explains reasons for raiding nightclubs

Organizers of the protest action "For Our Rights" and the Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs decided to create two groups to resolve drug policy issues and analyze the police actions during raids to nightclubs.

The protest action began on May 12, after the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported the detention of eight persons during raids in Tbilisi nightclubs. The police detained several activists who advocated the legalization of drugs. The protesters demanded to dismiss from office Giorgi Gakhariya, Minister of Internal Affairs, and punished those who used force against the protesters.

The Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs and the organizers of the protest action agree that it is necessary to fight the spread of drugs, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The police raids to the nightclubs were provoked by more and more frequent cases of hospitalization of nightclub visitors with drug intoxication, reported the Minister of Internal Affairs. According to him, over the past two weeks, 48 people were taken to hospitals from different nightclubs.
