Head of Georgian MIA apologizes to participants of action "For Our Freedom"

After negotiations with protesters, Giorgi Gakhariya, Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs, came out to participants of the action "For Our Freedom" and apologized for a special operation in nightclubs.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 13, a new wave of protests was launched against a special operation in Tbilisi nightclubs. In parallel with the action "For Our Rights", the "National Unity of Georgia" started its counteraction.

After the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) announced the detention of eight persons during raids on nightclubs, on May 12, people gathered for a protest action in front of the parliament building. Later, activists demanded to dismiss Giorgi Gakhariya, Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs, and punished those who used force when detaining people at the action in protest against the law enforcers' acts.

Beka Tsikarishvili, one of the organizers of the action "For Our Rights", told protesters that Giorgi Gakhariya did not absolve himself of responsibility for the special operation and was willing to punish all those who exceeded their powers. Giorgi Gakhariya also promised to reform the drug policy.
