Tbilisi protesters demand resignation of MIA head

The protest action "For our freedom" is being held in Tbilisi. Its participants demanded to dismiss Giorgi Gakhariya, the head of the Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs (NIA), from the post and punish those who used force at dispersing the rally against police raids over nightclubs.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that several people were detained at the action against police raids over nightclubs. The police used force against the demonstrators, Zurab Djaparidze, the leader of the "New Political Centre-Girchi" Party, has stated. Today, the police reported that all the detainees have been released.

Today, a new action – "For our freedom" – has been launched; and activists of oppositional parties, including the United National Movement (UNM), have joined it.

Beka Tsikarishvili said that the protesters are seeking the resignation of Giorgi Gakhariya, the MIA head, and punishment of all those responsible for using force against demonstrators.

Protesters are going to set up a tent camp and stay there day and night.
