Azerbaijani activist Abbas Guseinov's mother: son subjected to new torture in prison

The mother of Abbas Guseinov, the deputy chairman of the movement "Muslim Unity", reported on her phone conversation with his son on May 10, in which he told her about humiliations in the Gobustan prison. The Penitentiary Service denies any acts of torture.

Seven persons were killed in a special operation conducted in Nardaran in November 2015. In the case of the riots in the Nardaran village, defendants were sentenced to 10-20 years of imprisonment. Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the "Muslim Unity", and Abbas Guseinov were sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment.

Rakhima Guseinova has also reported that according to her information, during the recent two days, Abbas is being tied to an iron pillar from the morning and is being kept there in the sun for the whole day.

The woman said that that happened after she had made public the information about the suspected tortures of her son and appealed to the Penitentiary Service, the Ombudsman and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Baku.
