Grozny residents report policemen's visits on eve of Victory Day

On May 8, in the Chechen capital, law enforcers visited apartments of city residents to check their IDs and blocked the central streets of the city, local residents report. Security measures have been enhanced in the city on the occasion of the Victory Day celebrations, the police explain.

Law enforcers visited apartments in high-rise buildings along Putin and Kadyrov Avenues. Starting from the evening on May 8, the central streets of Grozny, along with the adjacent neighbourhoods are closed for traffic, local residents reported.

"Policemen visited apartments, asked about presence of strangers, and checked passports. When asked if something had happened, one of the inspectors said that was a raid to check the passport regime before a parade," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Zargan, a local woman.

Residents of Grozny also reported that starting from 8:00 p.m. on May 8, law enforcers completely blocked the traffic along the central streets of the city.
