Ecologists treat Volgograd smog as a dust storm

In the air over Volgograd, the number of dangerous substances has not been exceeded, and the smog which alarmed city residents was a dust storm coming from other regions, experts explained on May 7.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 7, Volgograd residents complained about the deterioration of their health and associated that with the smog observed in the city since May 6.

Officials from the City Department for Analytical and Operational Control of Environmental Quality have studied air samples in Volgograd and found no excess of the maximum allowable concentration of dangerous substances, but found a dust content 2-3 times higher, the news agency "Vysota 102" reported in the evening on May 7.

According to the City Mayoralty, Volgograd experiences dust storms which were formed in the territory of the Astrakhan Region and in Kazakhstan, the news agency reports.
