Activists call on citizens of Armenia to hold peaceful protests

In Armenia, a "velvet revolution" will succeed only in the case of peaceful protests. This was stated by activists from the "Counterstrike" art group, as well as organizers of the protest against the rise in electricity tariffs and the ban on right-hand drive vehicles that were held in the country in the past.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 20, in Yerevan, demonstrators blocked several busy roads. The police detained 233 people. According to Deutsche Welle, more than 50,000 people took part in the rally on the same day.

The protest will reach its goal if at least 150,000 citizens come to the streets, believes Gevorg Adjemyan, a coordinator of the movement "Right-Hand Drive". He has noted that it is necessary to prevent any conflicts between demonstrators and the police.

Activity of young people exceeded any expectations, said Gerbert Gevorgyan, a member of the Yerevan "Counterstrike" art group.

A "velvet revolution" requires the maximum consolidation of society, states student Aram Arutyunyan, a participant of the protests.

Simon Avagyan from Yerevan believes that a "velvet revolution" will be successful if citizens of Armenia feel themselves the masters of their country.

According to Akop Vardanyan, a resident of Yerevan, a long struggle is required to achieve the goal by peaceful means.

The authorities use provocateurs in the fight against protests, notes Taron Galstyan, a resident of Yerevan.
