Experts: conflict in Karabakh unlikely to aggravate amidst Armenian crisis

Azerbaijan will not benefit from using the political crisis in Armenia to aggravate the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, since that will lead to unity in the Armenian society and increase the Russian pressure on the parties to the conflict. That opinion was voiced by military experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

After on April 17, Serzh Sargsyan was elected the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan announced the beginning of a "peaceful revolution." Protest actions are held in Yerevan and other cities of the country.

Meanwhile, during his inauguration held on April 18, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev has stated that modern Armenia "is on the historical lands of Azerbaijan."

However, Azerbaijani experts questioned the risk of imminent aggravation of the Karabakh conflict.

"The geopolitical situation in the world is very complicated now. There are so many hot conflicts in the surrounding regions," emphasizes expert Azad Isazade.

He has not ruled out that the Armenian authorities can provoke a war in order to "distract people's attention from domestic policy." However, he notes "if Armenia does not provoke Azerbaijan, then Baku will not aggravate the situation at the front line."

Russia is interested in strengthening the Serzh Sargsyan's power, added Uzeyir Jafarov, the head of the NGO "Military Journalists".
