Oppositionists condemn brutal dispersal of protests in Armenia

The European Armenian Forum has called on the police not to use force against participants of an action in Yerevan, and the "Apricot Country" Party has condemned the law enforcers' actions against demonstrators.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 16, participants of the actions against the appointment of Serzh Sargsyan the Prime Minister blocked several streets in Yerevan. According to the recent information, 46 people, including six law enforcers, were injured in clashes with the police.

The General Prosecutor's Office has accused the participants of the protest action of damaging the others people's property and using violence against policemen.

Meanwhile, the European Armenian Forum has called on the law enforcement bodies "not to go against thousands of people and not to use force against them."

"The police should protect the people and stand next to them," noted participants of the forum.

The "Apricot Country" Party has also accused the police of "using brutal force against the people" and called on policemen to "bring Sargsyan to responsibility as a defendant."

Naira Zograbyan, a delegate to the National Assembly from the "Tsarukyan" bloc, believes that every citizen has the right to express his or her discontent in accordance with the Armenian Constitution.

  • Khamzat Kadyrov confirms drone attack on Chechnya

    Secretary of the Chechen Security Council Khamzat Kadyrov has posted on a social networking service a video of the destruction of a drone. The Chechen official has also added that all the drones launched today to attack the republic had been shot down.
