In Yerevan, students start a strike against Serzh Sargsyan

Activists from the Yerevan State University have marched to various universities of the city with an appeal to students to join their action against the nomination of Serzh Sargsyan to the post of the Prime Minister of Armenia.

On April 9, the inauguration of Armen Sargsyan as the new President of Armenia was held; and the presidential powers of Serzh Sargsyan terminated. On April 17, the Parliament will elect the Prime Minister, who, in accordance with the recent constitutional reform, will be the first person of the state.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a joint rally of the Front "For the State of Armenia" and the initiative group "Reject Serzh" in Freedom Square in Yerevan, held in the evening on April 9, gathered about 500 people, who demanded not to allow Serzh Sargsyan, the former President, to the post of the Prime Minister.

This morning, the students have started their march from the main building of the Yerevan State University. Within several hours, according to the participants of the action, it gathered about 50-60 students.

A student from the American University of Armenia has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that she has urged students from her university to join the strike against Serzh Sargsyan and as a part of the action to greet participants of the protest walking tour "My Step" who are going by foot to Yerevan from Gyumri.

Vaan Kostanyan, a member of the initiative group "My Step", has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about the pressure on students from the administrations of the universities "not to take part in the protest."
