Georgian MIA launches inquiry into Africans' beating
Today, a video record of an attack on a group of people from African countries playing football in a Tbilisi street has been shown on TV.
The incident was filmed on video by one of the black people.
The video, shown today by the "Rustavi-2" TV Company, recorded how a group of black young people who was playing football on a sports ground, was attacked by several men who used sticks to beat the black people.
One of the victims, a Nigerian citizen, told journalists that he and his friends were attacked for racist and discriminatory grounds. "The men, unknown to us and armed with sticks, shouted to us that we should go back to Africa and insulted us," said the Nigerian citizen as quoted by the "Interfax".
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia has launched an investigation into the incident under Article 126 of the Georgian Criminal Code (beatings and torture), the "First Channel of Georgian Public TV" reports.
