Activists prevent exporting from Adjara a 300-year-old eucalyptus
On April 4, the "Dmanisi Salvation Fund", set up by activists of the Georgian opposition and NGOs, announced the completion of raising money to buy out a 300-year-old eucalyptus after winning the tender.
The tree was put up for auction by the Servicing Agency of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia. The above Fund will pay 20,020 laris (about 8300 US dollars) into the country's budget, the "Rustavi-2" TV Company reports.
According to oppositionists, the eucalyptus, growing in the village of Mtsvane Kontskhi on the Green Cape not far from Batumi, will remain in place and become a symbol of the power of the people of Georgia.
Initially, a bidder was the company, which, according to the opposition, represented the interests of the former Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili.
