Military observers reveal Armenia's problems in the weapons sphere

The lack of financing, a weak production potential and a tough rivalry in the international arms market prevent Armenia from becoming a major player therein. This was stated by the military observers interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

The second international exhibition of arms and defence technologies "ArmHiTec" was over on March 31 in Yerevan. It was attended by 30 companies from 14 countries, including Russia, China, Italy, France and Germany.

The aim of the event was to strengthen Armenia's security and establish links with international partners.

Sargis Airapetyan, an engineer of the ProMAQ Company, told about the creation of a drone-kamikaze HREESH with a range of 40-50 km. According to his story, the warhead is capable of hitting any targets, including armoured vehicles.

Mger Markosyan, Director of the Yerevan Research Institute for Communication Means, noted that after the aggravation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, he revised his approach to production. In particular, the Institute has developed air defence weapons able to detect UAVs (drones).

An optical-electronic counteracting system has reduced combat losses from snipers' shots, the spokesman for the LT-PYRKAL Company has stated.

Leonid Nersisyan, a military analyst and the editor-in-chief of the magazine "New Defence Order; Strategies" believes that Armenia will not be able to fully equip itself with the entire range of weapons.

Samvel Agababyan, a military analyst, pointed to Armenia's problems in the spheres of sciences and education, the lack of funding. Due to military threats, the country is forced to buy a lot of weapons abroad, and this requires huge expenditures. According to his story, given these conditions, the development of the domestic military-industrial complex is an extreme must.
