Russian oppositionist Navalny's office closed in Sochi

The office of the Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny has stopped its work in Sochi because of financial difficulties, activists have stated. The office opened on July 31, 2017.

The anti-corruption activities will continue, said Olesya Khristosenko, a deputy coordinator of the office.

"During this time, the office has rallied the best forces of the city and helped the young people, who want a better future for their country, to self-organize," said Konstantin Zykov, the coordinator of the office.

The motives for the work of Navalny's offices in Astrakhan, Volgograd, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don and Stavropol were analyzed in the article of the "Caucasian Knot" "Navalny's Volunteers: Pre-Paid PR Campaign or New Political Power?"

According to Ms Khristosenko, "it is possible that a new party, movement or association will be created."

Irina Barkhatova, an activist of the office, believes that "when the authorities understand that people know their rights, they will be forced to observe them."

Gennady Kozinov, an activist, said that he had joined the office because he was "sick and tired of lawlessness and disrespectful attitude towards people who fight against corruption."
