Islamic shops inspected in Grozny
On March 30, in Grozny, officials from the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya together with religious figures and the police conducted large-scale inspections of shops selling Islamic goods and religious literature. No violations have been found out, reported an official from the Chechen Prosecutor's Office.
Magomed, Imam of one of Grozny's mosques believes such inspections are to be held. "In recent years, a large number of editions have appeared, through which extremists, with references to the works of well-known theologians, distort the meaning and significance of Islam, inflict discontent and discord among believers and detrimentally affect young people. Today, counteracting such kind of extremist and radical trends is one of the main tasks facing both the religious figures and the whole society," Imam Magomed told the "Caucasian Knot".
Zarema, a seller of the Islamic goods stall at the "Berkat" marketplace in Grozny, has noted that the trade in Islamic literature causes problems. "We must constantly ensure that something banned should not get to the counter, since an inspection can come at any time and a single banned brochure is enough for a fine to be imposed. It is difficult to keep an eye on all that, since the lists of banned literature are being constantly replenished," Zarema told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
