Dagestani Prosecutor demands to eliminate violations in Gasanguseinov brothers' case

Dagestani Prosecutor Denis Popov has officially confirmed the detection of violations committed during the investigation into the killing of the Gasanguseinov brothers.

Nabi and Gasangusein Gasanguseinov were killed on August 24, 2016. Law enforcers declared them to be militants, who opened automatic fire at policemen. The casualties' fellow villagers demanded to punish those responsible for their murder, asserting that the brothers were shepherds and had no relation to the militants.

On March 27, an advocate and relatives of the killed Gasanguseinov brothers got an answer from the Prosecutor of Dagestan to their appeal about an inadequate investigation into the case, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the father of the killed brothers.

Shamil Magomedov, an advocate of the Gasanguseinov family, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that according to the Dagestani Prosecutor's reply, the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan issued a notion to the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) and the chief of the ROVD (District Interior Division) for the Shamil District.

The Dagestani Prosecutor requested the ICRF's Department for Dagestan and the Shamil ROVD to eliminate violations in the case. According to his decision, the criminal case will also be resumed under Part 2 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, instituted in connection with the killing of Gasanguseinov brothers.

"It is unclear how the story with the termination and resumption of the criminal case will end. In his reply, the Dagestani Prosecutor has not noted why it was decided to reopen the case, and he indicated that there had been violations committed. The Prosecutor also demands to separate the material against police [department] chief Aliev. This is a serious turning point in the case. It is impossible to predict whether Aliev will be held responsible or not, but it should be noted there is no such practice in Dagestan," advocate Shamil Magomedov commented on the reply got from the Prosecutor of Dagestan.
