Holiday of Balkar People's Revival Day postponed after tragedy in Kemerovo

Today, the authorities of Kabardino-Balkaria have reported that the festive events dedicated to the Day of the Balkar People's Revival were postponed from March 28 to March 30 because of the tragedy in Kemerovo where people were killed by the fire.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 28, Kabardino-Balkaria holds festive events to celebrate the Day of the Balkar People's Revival. The holiday was set up in 1994 to pay tribute to memory of the Balkar people's eviction.

This year marks the 74th anniversary of the deportation of Balkar people to Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The operation to evict Balkars began on March 8, 1944, and it lasted only two hours. 37,713 Balkars were sent to places of settlement, and more than half of them were children. The Balkars were not allowed to return home until 1957.

Today, the press service of Kabardino-Balkarian leader Yuri Kokov has reported that in connection with the tragedy in Kemerovo, the festive events dedicated to the Day of the Balkar People's Revival are postponed to March 30.

In Kemerovo, the fire at the "Winter Cherry" shopping and entertainment complex began in the afternoon on March 25, and was not extinguished until the other day. The fire killed 64 people, including 13 children.
