Chechen fighter withdrawn from fight in USA because of visa problems
Mairbek Taisumov, a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, was removed from a fight with American Evan Dunham in New York because of problems with obtaining an American visa.
The Taisumov-Dunham fight within the framework of the UFC 223 Absolute Fighting Championship was scheduled for April 7.
UFC lawyers tried to help the athlete in solving the problem, since the point was not the rejection, but just a delay in obtaining a visa. Because of visa delays, Mairbek Taisumov has already missed two UFC fights, the RIA "Novosti" has reported today.
Taisumov himself associates his visa problems with political reasons. At the same time, he has stressed that he had earlier visited tournaments in the USA, and had had an American working visa. "Now, it seems that I can't get one; and I don't know why. It's just politics, but it can have a big impact on lives of ordinary people like me," the "Kommersant" has quoted the athlete's interview to the "MMA Fighting" today.
