Makhachkala Mayoralty rejected accusations of killing stray dogs

The authorities have nothing to do with the killing of a stray dog, which was committed by unidentified men, who introduced themselves as Mayoralty employees, the Mayoralty has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 16, a four-year-old child, who disappeared on February 15, was found dead in Makhachkala. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), he was bitten to death by stray dogs. The city authorities admitted their inability to solve the problem of stray animals.

This problem in Dagestan became acute after on February 19, 2017, the body of a nine-year schoolgirl, who died from dogs' bites, was found in Makhachkala. Residents of the republic began reporting mass killings of stray dogs.

The Mayoralty "is categorically against such actions," the Mayoralty's website asserts.

According to the "Zoopravo" association of experts and lawyers on animal rights and protection, the animal was shot dead at night on March 4.

Zoo defenders have urged Vladimir Vasiliev, the acting head of the republic, "to intervene in the situation and stop disorders and shooting."
