Georgian authorities provide Mustafa Emre Çabuk with state protection
Turkish citizen Mustafa Emre Çabuk, accused at home of aiding and abetting terrorism, was involved in the state protection programme, advocate Soso Baratashvili reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 24, 2017, Turkish teacher Mustafa Emre Çabuk was detained in the Georgian capital at the request of Turkey. The court pronounced to arrest him for further extradition. On January 26, the court of appeal confirmed the refusal to grant Mustafa Emre Çabuk the refugee status. Rights defenders requested the President to grant Mustafa Emre Çabuk Georgian citizenship, since they believe if extradited to Turkey, he is threatened with inhuman treatment and torture. On February 19, Mustafa Emre Çabuk was released on bail.
The Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has granted the Mustafa Emre Çabuk's request for state protection, reported on March 1 online magazine SOVA with reference to advocate Soso Baratashvili.
"Mustafa Emre Çabuk is involved in the state protection programme, and members of his family are also involved in it. His application has been granted and he is already under the protection of state guards," said advocate Soso Baratashvili as quoted by the "Georgia Online" on March 1.
