Jamil Gasanli calls on Musavat and ReAl to protest against presidential election

Jamil Gasanli, the leader of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) of Azerbaijan, has called on the "Musavat" Party and the movement "Republican Alternative" (ReAl) to hold protests against the early presidential election.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the presidential election in Azerbaijan was scheduled for October 17, 2018. However, on February 5, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev appointed early elections on April 11, without presenting any reasons for the move. The opposition criticized this decision, explaining it by authorities' desire "to ease falsifications and not to allow the opposition to get properly prepared."

The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), the "Musavat" and "Umid" Parties refused to take part in the presidential election in Azerbaijan, and the movements "Republican Alternative" (ReAl) and "Nida" refused to recognize the election results. The movement "For Democracy and Prosperity" has called on the Azerbaijani authorities to cancel the early presidential election.

On February 27, the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) voiced an initiative to hold mass protest actions in March against the early presidential election scheduled for in April.

Jamil Gasanli, the leader of the NCDF, welcomed the decision of the "Musavat" Party and the movement "Republican Alternative" (ReAl) to boycott the election and not to recognize its results. He has called on the leaders of the above political forces to support the NCDF's rallies in order to "express resistance against the election falsified by the authorities," the news agency "Turan" reported on February 27.
