Tenants of dilapidated house in Gyumri refuse to stay in temporary shelters

Residents of a house in Gyumri, where floors collapsed at night on February 23, still stay in their apartments. According to a woman who lives in the house, living conditions in tin shelters offered by the authorities are worse than in the dilapidated building.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that 11 tenants of the building in Garegin Nzhde Street in Gyumri spent half of the night in the street after the floors in the building collapsed at night on February 23. No one was hurt as a result of the collapse.

A woman who lives in the house reported that after the collapse, all the tenants were accommodated in one room at a nearby hotel for the night, but after that she and her neighbours had to return home. "We cannot continue living in the house, but we have nowhere to move in. And the tin shelters offered by the authorities are not a solution to the problem, since they are even worse than our current housing," the woman said.

According to Vardges Samsonyan, the chief of the housing and communal department of the Gyumri Mayoralty, the authorities are looking for other options to accommodate tenants of the dilapidated building. In Gyumri, two buildings are under repair now, and after the completion of the repair works, the tenants of the damaged building may be accommodated to those buildings. Meanwhile, the official failed to mention the deadline for the repair completion. "They cannot stay in the half-collapsed building. In any case, the tenants should move from it," Vardges Samsonyan noted.
