Chechen Parliament criminalizes distorting history of World War II
A bill passed by the Parliament of Chechnya provides for criminal liability for deliberate distorting the history of World War II and insulting the feelings of war veterans. MPs approved the bill unanimously.
The bill was considered on February 15.
"The legislative initiative provides for criminal prosecution for deliberate distorting the history of World War II, insulting the feelings of war veterans and memory of those killed in World War II, as well as denying the decisive contribution of the USSR to the victory in World War II," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the administration for the Parliament of Chechnya.
According to the parliament administration, "the bill is primarily aimed at resisting certain destructive forces that deliberately distort the events of World War II." "We see such manifestations in the West, where the decisive contribution of the Red Army to the defeat of Hitler's fascism is denied. Today, we can see that on the examples of the Baltic states or Ukraine," the parliament administration states.
