In Austria, Court finds two immigrants from Chechnya guilty of plotting a terror act
The Vienna Court (Landesgericht für Strafsachen Wien) has recognized three men, two of whom are natives of Chechnya, guilty of creating an IS* unit and plotting an attack on policemen.
According to prosecutors, the men joined the "Islamic State" (IS)* and used social networks to stay in contact with another IS* member who instructed them to attack a police station.
The men decided to rob a weapons store and then attack the police station in the city of Sankt Pölten, the capital of Lower Austria, the RIA "Novosti" reports with reference to the Austrian agency Austria Presse Agentur.
The Court found the suspects guilty of belonging to a terror association, participation in a criminal conspiracy and a criminal organization.
One of the suspects, who left Chechnya in 2002, was sentenced to six months of imprisonment. The second suspect, a 19-year-old native of Chechnya, who lived in Austria since 2005, was sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment with a possibility for conditional early relief (CER) in five months. He was released at the courtroom, since he had already served the same period in the detention facility.
The third accused, a 19-year-old Austrian citizen, was sentenced to 26 months of imprisonment, the "RBC" reports.
*"Islamic State" (IS, ISIL) is a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by court.
