Talekh Bagirzade sentenced to five months in prison for keeping memory cards in his cell

Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the "Muslim Unity" movement, who is serving his 20-year term for the riots in Nardaran, was sentenced to additional five months on charges of keeping prohibited items in his prison cell.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 25, 2017, the court sentenced Talekh Bagirzade to 20 years in prison on the case of riots in Nardaran. In late 2017, he was accused of keeping an object prohibited by prison rules. Investigators concluded that memory cards are piercing-cutting objects.

On February 13, Rufan Mursalov, a judge of the Garadag District Court, found Bagirzade guilty and sentenced him to five additional months of imprisonment, his advocate Fariz Namazly told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The maximum punishment under the article is six months in prison. The judge has partially summed up the new term with the remaining part of the previous one and sentenced him to 18 years in prison, Mr Namazly has noted.

According to his story, Bagirzade himself, in the last plea, treated his new criminal case as prejudiced and politically motivated. He noted that "witnesses from among inmates have confirmed that keeping memory cards is a common practice in jails, and nobody is punished for that."
