Armenian authorities boil over Aliev's words about Azerbaijani historical lands

Ilham Aliev has called on Azerbaijanis to return to their historical lands, including Yerevan.

"Erivan is our historical land, and we, the Azerbaijanis, should return to these lands. This is our political and strategic goal," the President of Azerbaijan has stated.

He has also expressed his joy at the fact that scientific papers are being written, films are being shot and exhibitions are being held in which the Erivan Khanate and other territories of modern Armenia are called the historical lands of Azerbaijan. "Our young generation and the whole world should know about that," said the President of Azerbaijan as quoted by the "Minval.az".

The Erivan Khanate was founded by the Iranian Shah in 1604, and in the 19th century, it became a part of Russia. The capital of the Erivan Khanate is now the capital of Armenia.

"In the 21st century, the president of one country comes forward with territorial claims against another country," said Eduard Sharmazanov, Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, the press secretary of the ruling Republican Party, when commented on the Ilham Aliev's statement. He has called them insolvent from a historical point of view, the "Interfax" reports.
