Memorial to Abkhazia defenders desecrated in Gudauta
Unidentified vandals have desecrated the memorial in honour of the 18 fallen defenders of Abkhazia, the construction of which is being conducted in the swelling settlement of Algyt in the city of Gudauta.
At the memorial, the nose of the old man's sculpture was broken off, and several plates with the names of the country's regions were damaged.
According to Igor Smyr, the architect of the memorial, investigators are now studying the incident. They plan to hold a rally of local residents-war veterans parents of perished soldiers in the venue. It will raise the issue that relatives of the vandal should themselves bring him to the police, the "Sputnik-Abkhazia" reports.
The construction of the memorial began in the spring of 2017; the completion is scheduled for this March, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
