Possible Mikhail Saakashvili's extradition causes fears of mass protests in Georgia

After he was denied the refugee status in Ukraine, the former president of Georgia may be extradited to his homeland, if he continues his oppositional activities in Ukraine, Stanislav Fedorchuk, a Ukrainian political analyst, believes. Extradition of Saakashvili will cause disapproval of the West and trigger mass protests in Georgia, Nika Chitadze and Gela Vasadze, Georgian political analysts, are convinced.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 5, the Kiev court rejected Saakashvili's complaint about the refusal to grant him the status of a person in need of additional protection. According to the opinion of his advocate, this gives the Ukrainian authorities grounds to extradite Saakashvili to Georgia as a stateless person.

According to Stanislav Fedorchuk, the head of the "Ukrainian People's Rada of the Donetsk and Lugansk Regions", after Saakashvili's protests in Ukraine, his authority among Western politicians could teeter.

In his turn, Nika Chitadze, Professor of International Black Sea University, believes that on the contrary, in the eyes of Western politicians, Saakashvili proved himself "as a reliable partner," because "he passed the test of Ukraine."

In his opinion, in Europe and the USA Saakashvili is perceived as an advanced politician; and in case of his extradition, mass protests may break out in Georgia.

According to Gela Vasadze, a journalist, the Ukrainian authorities will not extradite Saakashvili without coordination with the United States.
