Chechen woman denies information about her prosecution by law enforcers

On January 21, on the TV air, Aminat Avturkhanova, who was looking for her husband, included in the list of the people executed in Chechnya a year ago, denied the information that she had been detained by law enforcers. The woman was forced to voice such a statement, local residents suggest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", Aminat Avturkhanova was detained on January 8. After that, her family members could not contact her. Ruslan Alkhanov, Chechen Minister of Internal Affairs, reported that the woman stayed at home.

According to a story broadcasted by the "Grozny" TV Channel, Aminat Avturkhanova was "at home, playing with children," and she learned about her detention from the Internet.

"A week ago I was invited to a police station. They asked me if anything was known about my husband. After the conversation, I and my brother calmly went home," the woman said.

Tamara Avturkhanova, a mother of the woman, also denied the information that her daughter had been detained by law enforcers.

A leader of a local NGO treats the TV story as staged.

Grozny resident Zarema, a psychologist, agrees with the above version. "It was enough to watch how Aminat and her mother behaved during the interview. They were looking to the ground and voicing the phrases they had learned. It is clear for me that they voiced exactly what they were allowed to voice," the psychologist explained.
