Law enforcers call suspect killed in Kaspiysk a militant recruiter

Alexei Omaev, killed in Kaspiysk, was suspected of acting as a militant intermediary and recruiting young people for the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia by the court. This was reported by sources from the law enforcement bodies.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on January 15, in Kaspiysk, a man opened fire on policemen in response to their request to produce his ID and was killed by return fire.

The killed suspect has been preliminary identified as Alexei Omaev (Amaev) who had earlier criminal record. He was 46 years old, and he was a resident of Kaspiysk, sources from the law enforcement bodies report.

According to a source, Alexei Omaev was a member of an illegal armed formation (IAF). He had a pistol, ammunition, and an RGD-5 grenade with him.

"Earlier, the killed suspected militant was prosecuted under articles of 'robbery' and 'deliberate infliction of serious harm to health'. Besides, he was suspected of acting as a militant intermediary, illegal arms trafficking, and recruiting young people for the ISIL*," the source reported.

* "Islamic State" (IS, earlier, ISIL) is an organization that is recognized as a terrorist organization and is banned in Russia by court's decision.
