Chechen villagers report detentions provoked by law enforcer's murder

In the village of Avtury in the Shali District, law enforcers have detained all the men from the family of Khamzat Baimuradov, suspected of killing the chief of the police station and shot dead during his detention on January 3. This has been reported by fellow villagers of Khamzat Baimuradov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to the law enforcement bodies, during an attempt to detain him, Khamzat Baimuradov rendered resistance and was killed by return fire.

Earlier, 27-year-old Khamzat Baimuradov served in the law enforcement bodies, and he had criminal record for aiding and abetting militants, a source from the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported.

"The Baimuradov family is big, and all the men are detained," said a family friend.

Sultan, a resident of the Avtury village, has also added that relatives of Khamzat Baimuradov were forbidden to hold a mourning service.

On January 4, a video was posted on the Internet, which, according to users of social networks, showed the body of Khamzat Baimuradov, thrown on the village square.

Some residents of Chechnya believe it is unacceptable to expose the killed person's body in a square, prohibit religious rites or refuse to give it out to relatives.

Djambulat Umarov, Chechen Minister for National Policy and Information, has called the information unreliable.

He has noted that in Chechnya, people do not attend funerals of such persons, since they are treated as "outcasts and scum."

  • Analysts assess Dagestani head’s statement on appeals of SMO fighters

The appeals of the participants of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine from Dagestan to republic’s authorities are caused by many local problems and remain one of the ways to attract officials’ attention. Despite the statement by the head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, that the combatants record their appeals as a result of "manipulations," he will have to respond to them, analysts believe.
