Suspect of killing Chechen policeman shot dead

At detention attempt, the suspect of assassinating the head of the police station in the village of Avtury rendered resistance and was shot dead by return fire, Ruslan Alkhanov, the Chechen Interior Minister, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on January 3, in the village of Avtury, Shali District of Chechnya, Abubakar Ustarkhanov, the head of the rural police division, was shot dead. The killer shot at the policeman in the store and disappeared by hijacking Ustarkhanov's car.

Khamzat Baimuradov, a 27-year-old local resident, who had earlier served for law enforcement bodies and was suspected of aiding militants, was suspected of committing the policeman's murder, a source from the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

According to Minister Alkhanov, the suspect of assassinating Abubakar Ustarkhanov was killed as a result of a special operation.

Policemen and servicemen of the "Rosgvardia" (Russian National Guard) found out where the suspect was hiding and blocked him in the outskirt of Avtury.

"At detention, he rendered resistance and was killed by return fire," said Ruslan Alkhanov, whose words are quoted by the RIA "Novosti".
