Initiative of Armenian Transport Ministry provokes car owners' protest
The initiative of the Armenian Ministry of Transport to ban the import of right-hand-drive cars has provoked a protest of car owners. A race with a demand to withdraw the initiative has been scheduled for December 22.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Armenian Ministry of Transport put forward an initiative to temporarily restrict import and ban the exploitation of right-hand-drive cars. Users of social networks and members of NGOs that protect the rights of motorists have criticized the initiative.
The initiative group "Right-Hand-Drive", created in the social network Facebook, has announced a rally scheduled for December 22. The organizers of the rally call on users of the Armenian Facebook to write comments to the publication and then join the protest.
On December 18, Gevorg Adjemyan, a coordinator of the initiative group "Right-Hand-Drive", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the motorists intend to make no concessions until the Armenian authorities withdraw the initiative.
"The authorities assure they will not prohibit the exploitation of right-hand-drive cars, but there will be restrictions on re-registration of such cars. And that means that after April 1, it will be impossible to sell a right-hand-drive car," emphasized Gevorg Adjemyan.
