Law enforcers: people killed in Karachay-Cherkessia were IS*militants

Five persons who have been killed today by law enforcers in the Cossack village of Zelenchukskaya were plotting to commit terror acts in crowded places, the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has informed that this morning, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was introduced in the Zelenchuksky District of Karachay-Cherkessia. In the course of a shootout, law enforcers killed five people, the NAC reports.

The shootout occurred after the suspected militants were blocked in a dilapidated building in a summer village located on the outskirts of the Zelenchukskaya Cossack village. Tenants of nearby houses were evacuated, and none of civilians and law enforcers was injured during the special operation, the NAC's press service reports.

According to the preliminary data released by the law enforcement bodies, there was the leader of the militant grouping among the killed suspects. "It is known that members of the militant grouping swore allegiance to the international terrorist organization ISIL* and planned to commit crimes of terrorist nature in crowded places," reads the statement posted on the NAC's website.

*The "Islamic State" (IS, formerly ISIL) has been recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia by the court.
