Monument to poetess Fazu Alieva opened in Makhachkala

The monument to Fazu Alieva, the people's poetess of Dagestan, was opened in Friendship Park in the capital of the republic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Fazu Alieva, the author of more than 80 poetic and prose books translated into 68 languages of the world, died on January 1, 2016.

Fazu Alieva took an active part in the public life of the republic. She was the chair of the Dagestani Peace Protection Committee and the Dagestani Women's Union.

The monument is a sculpture of the poetess sitting on a bench and dressed in a long dress. In her hands, the statue holds a bouquet of flowers, and her head is covered with a shawl. There is a book in front of her, on the page of which people can read a verse written by Fazu Alieva. The monument is made according to the sketches drawn by masters from Zlatoust: Alexander Lokhtachev, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, and artist Olga Zubkova.

"We feel respect and gratitude to the daughter of the mountainous country who glorified Dagestan... Her life and creative career is an example of worthy service to the great homeland Russia and multinational Dagestan," declared Kamil Davdiev, the deputy chairman of the People's Assembly of Dagestan.
