Makhachkala residents complain about poor coverage of Amirov's trial by media

The court sessions that consider the liberation of Said Amirov, a former Mayor of Makhachkala, from colony are not covered by Dagestani TV channels; people have to take all the information from the Internet, the Makhachkala residents interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have stated.

On August 27, 2015, the court sentenced Amirov to life imprisonment for organizing murders, banditry and terrorism.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 6, the Sol-Iletsk District Court began considering the defence's motion about Said Amirov's release from colony. The motion was justified by the fact that since an assassination attempt on him in 1993, Amirov is a wheelchair invalid.

Sharabudin Mustafaev, a pensioner from Makhachkala, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he constantly watches television; however, it is not covering the new Amirov's trial. "It's beneficial neither for Moscow, nor local authorities to cover it," he has added.

Timur Magomedov, another Makhachkala resident, has also noted the failure of local TV channels to cover Said Amirov's trials. "This topic is of interest to me and my friends; but mainly I get information from the Internet," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Mr Magomedov has added that he and his friends hope that Russian President will interfere in the Amirov's case. "I would like him to be at large – he's an old man, anyhow," he said.

A townswoman named Saniyat says that her family has stopped hoping for Amirov's release. "Earlier, when they took him away, we thought that helicopters would fly again, but now we understand that this was done so that Abdulatipov could freely breathe and rule here. They just removed the man from his road," she noted to the "Caucasian Knot".
