Tuapse Mayor Alexander Chekhov detained

Law enforcers detained Alexander Chekhov, the head of the Tuapse administration, on suspicion of taking bribes. This has been reported today by sources from the law enforcement bodies.

In the evening on December 7, Alexander Chekhov was detained at the Krasnodar airport with a package which allegedly contained a large amount of money, the "Yugopolis" reports with reference to its source from the regional law enforcement bodies.

According to the source, the City Mayor is suspected of taking a bribe for recognizing one of the houses as dilapidated. However, at the time of his detention, Alexander Chekhov himself claimed he got a package as a birthday gift from his friend. The officials noted he was not aware of the content of the package.

It is known that the Tuapse Mayor has his birthday on November 20, the "Live Kuban" reports.

Besides, on its YouTube channel, the "Live Kuban" posted a video of the Mayor's detention. In the video, Alexander Chekhov introduces himself and says that he did not look inside the package he had in his hands.

A source from the authorities for the Krasnodar Territory has reported that since December 1, Alexander Chekhov is not the City Mayor anymore, the "Yuga.ru" reports. Officials from the press service of the Tuapse District administration refused to comment on the above information for the "Yuga.ru" and to confirm that the Tuapse Mayor had been dismissed from office.
