Migrants go on hunger strike in Makhachkala special detention facility

Eleven persons are on hunger strike; they have sent 11 applications to the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office, the Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO), the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), and Vladimir Vasiliev, the acting head of the republic, demanding attention and a check of their detention centre, the "Chernovik" writes.

"We are kept here for years; migrants suffer from tuberculosis and other diseases; however, they receive no medical help; there is no progress with our cases; our complaints fail to reach the prosecutor's office and other instances. Six months ago, we were already on a hunger strike; a colonel... came, promised to solve our problems," the "Chernovik" quotes Eduard Rastorguev, a citizen of Ukraine, as complaining.

According to Rastorguev, the hunger strike held in March proved fruitless.

According to the edition "Kavkaz.Realii", not 11, but 12 inmates are on the hunger strike. "We have been kept in this centre for more than a year... The MIA would not deport us from the territory of Russia and does not let us out of here; we are sick and tired of being in such suspended state. Our appeals to the head of the Russian MIA, the former and current heads of Dagestan, and to the prosecutor's office gave no results; therefore, we went on a hunger strike in the hope that the authorities would pay attention to our problems," the edition quotes one of the migrants, who asked not to name him.
