Chavchavadze, Tamara Iraklievna

Famous Georgian actress, People's Artist (narodnaya artistka) of Georgian SSR (Soviet Socialist Republic) (1943).

Born in Tbilisi on October 16 (29), 1900. In 1922, still as a student of A.N. Pagava's dramatic studio, played a role of Laurencia in the performance of Fuente ovejuna by Lope de Vega staged by K.A. Mardjanishvili in Rustaveli Theater. Participated in creating a State Theater in Kutaisi (1928, since 1933 - Tbilisi Theater named after Mardjanishvili), worked there until 1942; then worked in Rustaveli Theater; since 1964, worked in Sukhumi Theater. Roles: Margarita (Dame with Camellias by Dumas Jr.), Zeynab (Adultery by Sumbatov), Vassa (Vassa Zheleznova by Gorky), Sanata (Bakhtrioni after Vazha Pshavela), Madame Saint-Gent (Madame Saint-Gent by Sardou), Mother (Good Luck! by Rozov), and others. Since 1926, also acted in movies.

Was awarded Lenin's order (orden Lenina), Sign of Distinction order (orden "Znak Pochyota"), and medals.

Died in Tbilisi on April 26, 1968.
