Balkar women protest at Sheep Wool market in Nalchik (+video)
Women selling handmade goods at the Sheep Wool market in Nalchik held a protest action against the demands of the market's owner to pay for the construction of a covered pavilion.
The protest action on October 18 became a reaction to the actions of the market's administration. They owners have dismantled the fence of the market and began to evict Balkar women selling handcrafts made of sheep's wool, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported.
The market's owner decided to charge the merchants for the lease right for the trade places in the covered pavilions. According to protesters, the rent will cost 7 thousand rubles per month. But now the owner requires 120 thousand rubles from each of them at a time.
"Here, poor women and mothers with many children sell their goods, and we earn small sums of money only enough to feed our children. Now they want to demolish the market and build a pavilion at our expense," the participants of the action told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
