IS* threatens to commit terror acts at 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia

Supporters of the "Islamic State" (IS - banned in Russia by court's decision) have published two banners with threats to commit explosions during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the events of which will take place also in the cities of Southern Russia.

On October 17, the threats of the IS to attack the 2018 FIFA World Cup were reported by The Daily Mail.

In its article "ISIL threatens with terror acts on the finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia", The Daily Mail posted a banner of the terrorist organization depicting a man in mask with a submachine gun and a stylized symbol of a bomb with a lighted wick next to him, all the above against the background of the official emblem for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The picture is signed in Arabic and Russian. In Russian, the banner bears a phrase with a call to wait.

On October 20, the second IS banner with threats was posted on the website of the SITE Intelligence Group. The NGO monitors the activities of terrorist groupings on the Internet.

The banner depicts the emblem of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and a man in camouflage, an improvised explosive device (IED) with a timer and a backpack next to him, against the background of a stadium. The banner bears two inscriptions in English and Russian. The inscription in Russian is an appeal to those whom the authors of the banner treat as enemies of Allah in Russia. The inscription in English promises to burn in fire those who in Russia oppose Allah.

According to the SITE Intelligence Group, the banner was posted by one of the organizations associated with the IS.

*The "Islamic State" (IS, earlier ISIL) is recognized as a terrorist organization and is banned in Russia by court's decision.
