Opposition refuses to recognize Georgian election outcomes
The "Leaders' Council", consisting of the heads of 16 non-parliamentary oppositional parties of Georgia, has announced a complete distrust in the outcomes of the elections and treats them as illegitimate.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 21, Georgian citizen elected heads of 64 cities and districts, as well as 2058 deputies of 64 Sakrebulos.
According to the members of the Council, falsifications were fixed at the elections, while "the outcomes had been pre-planned by the authorities." The parliamentary oppositional parties – the "United National Movement" (UNM) and the "European Georgia" – have also announced election frauds.
"We reject the election outcomes and treat them as illegitimate," Nino Burjanadze, the UNM leader, has stated today.
According to her story, the elections were held with serious violations: activists of the ruling party "Georgian Dream-Democratic Movement" exerted "total pressure" and control over the votes.
"Under the current ruling regime, the electoral environment in Georgia has deteriorated even more, and in fact, what is very important, has reached the point, where a transfer of power through elections becomes impossible. This is the most dangerous trend that a country can have, which is really important for stability and peace in the country," Ms Burjanadze said at a briefing.
