Over 1000 people come to funeral of Armenian philanthropist Levon Airapetyan in Moscow

Today, the burial service for Armenian philanthropist Levon Airapetyan, who died in a Mordovian penal colony, has been held in the Cathedral of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Moscow.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that businessman Levon Airapetyan died on October 18. The defence stated he was seriously ill and should not have been imprisoned. However, the Supreme Court (SC) of Mordovia recognized the businessman's imprisonment as justified.

Levon Airapetyan was serving his four-year term of imprisonment in the penal colony. In 2014, in Moscow, he was detained on suspicion of money laundering, and in 2016, the Zamoskvorechye Court of Moscow found him guilty of embezzling 700,000 US dollars from the mother of former senator Igor Izmestiev. In June 2016, the Moscow City Court upheld the verdict.

The burial service for Levon Airapetyan was held at the Transfiguration Cathedral. A lot of expensive cars accumulated near the Cathedral. The funeral ceremony was attended by journalists of the Armenian TV Channel.
