Construction of bridge on Russian-Azerbaijani border launched

Today, the works have been started to construct an automobile bridge across the Samur River at the Russian-Azerbaijani border.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in August 2014, the Ministers for Transport of Azerbaijan and Russia approved the draft of the new bridge. The construction costs are to be paid by Azerbaijan. However, Russia has assumed the obligation to reimburse half of the costs after the completion of the construction works.

The new bridge will connect the checkpoints "Samur" in Azerbaijan and "Yarag-Kazmalyar" in Dagestan. According to the Ministry for Transport of the Russian Federation, the existing infrastructure is badly worn out.

"This will be the most important link in the international transport corridor, not only for the Caspian region, but also of importance for Europe and Asia," announced Maxim Sokolov, Russian Transport Minister, as quoted by the RIA "Novosti".

The construction is scheduled to be completed by the spring of 2019, the APA reports.
