FSB confirms detection of Doku Umarov’s remains in Ingushetia

The burial of Doku (Dokku) Umarov, the leader of North-Caucasian militants, and of several members of the underground was found as a result of a long-term targeted search, the FSB reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 25, law enforcement sources announced the discovery of the remains of Doku Umarov, the leader of the terrorist organization "Imarat Kavkaz", banned in Russia, in the mountains of Ingushetia. The burial of Umarov and four other militants was shown by a man, who was detained for taking part in hostilities on the side of militants in Syria, a source from the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has stated. The remains were sent to Moscow for forensic medical examination.

Today, FSB sources have officially confirmed the detection of the above burial.

Doku Umarov and the militants buried with him in Ingushetia were killed "during a special operation of power agents in September 2013," the TASS quotes the statement of the FSB’s public relations centre.

So far, the FSB sources do not refer to the results of the genetic examination, which must finally confirm that the remains belong to Doku Umarov.

Today, Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, has commented the above information in his "Telegram-Channel": "The elimination of Doku Umarov was a turning point in the fight against terrorism in Northern Caucasus."
