North Ossetia starts Memory Watch to honour victims of terror act in Beslan

North Ossetia has started a three-day Memory Watch to honour the victims of the terror act in Beslan in 2004. Residents of the republic come to school No. 1, bring flowers and leave candles in the gym.

On September 1, 2004, militants seized 1128 hostages in the gym of the school No. 1 in Beslan. The operation to release the hostages was completed on September 3, 2004. As a result of the terror act, 334 people were killed, including 186 children, and other 810 people were injured.

In the morning, people lined up to get to the gym of the school No. 1 to honour the memory of the people who fell victim to the terror act. The most people still cannot hide their emotions and leave the school building with tears in their eyes, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Arina Tebieva, a resident of the republic, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that in 2004, she was to go to the second form and she "did not get to the school only by a lucky chance." The former schoolgirl knew many of the victims personally.

Arina Tebieva studies in Saint Petersburg, but she makes all efforts to come to the Beslan School every year to honour the memory of the victims to the terror act.

"It seems to me that every year, on the contrary, it becomes harder to come here. We are growing and changing, and our deceased school mates are not changing. It makes the situation even more difficult ... That cannot be forgotten," said Arina Tebieva.
