North-Ossetian "Communists of Russia" stop hunger strike

Today, the Supreme Court of Russia has upheld the decision of the Stavropol Territorial Court to remove the "Communists of Russia" Party from the parliamentary elections in North Ossetia. This decision was made on the lawsuit lodged by the North-Ossetian branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), which announced a forgery of signatures of the candidates from the "Communists of Russia" to their statements of the consent to participate in the elections.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "Communists of Russia" are holding an unlimited political hunger strike against the court ruling to remove the party from North-Ossetian parliamentary elections.

The “Communists of Russia” Party was deliberately removed from the electoral process in North Ossetia, because the republic is not ready for a self-sufficient and independent party to come to parliament and ready to criticize the government, believes Ruslan Khugaev, the first deputy chairman of the Central Committee of the "Communists of Russia".

"The positions of the ‘Communists of Russia’ in North Ossetia are stronger than those of the CPRF, but the administration of Russian President has decided to support the CPRF with an eye on the Russian presidential election upcoming in 2018 – they do not want to annoy [the CPRF leader] Gennady Zyuganov, not to have any complications from him," Ruslan Khugaev has explained.

He added that today members of his party in North Ossetia decided to stop their protest hunger strike against the removal of the party from the elections.

"We didn’t expect that the hunger strike would solve anything; we just attracted the attention of the public and journalists to the absurd and far-fetched decision to remove us from the elections. Today, we stop the hunger strike," he said.
