Kaspiisk to host European Wrestling Championship in 2018

At a meeting of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Bureau held in Paris, it was decided to grant the right to host the European Championships to Dagestan. The dates of the tournament have not been announced yet.

The "Caucasian Knot" has repeatedly reported about the victories of Dagestani athletes at international tournaments. The city of Kaspiisk also hosted major wrestling tournaments.

"Today, at a meeting of the UWW Bureau, a very important decision was made for us: Kaspiisk was approved to be the city to host the European Wrestling Championship in 2018," the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft) quotes Mikhail Mamiashvili, the President for the Russian Wrestling Federation.

"The holding of the Championship in our republic is not only a tribute to the wrestling traditions of Russia and Dagestan, but also recognition of the efforts being made in the region to develop sport in general and wrestling in particular," stated Abdusamad Gamidov, the chairman of the Dagestani government, as quoted by the RIA "Dagestan".
