Rostov residents redirect request to cancel City Day to President Putin

Authors of an appeal to the Governor of the Rostov Region, who demanded to re-allocate money for the celebrations of the City Day to fire victims, readdressed the petition to the Russian President. The city residents share with the fire victims items of clothes and food products.

As of 2:09 p.m. Moscow time, the petition posted on the website "change.org" has collected 33,195 signatures.

Some users of the social network "VKontakte" doubt the effectiveness of such an appeal to the Russian President, since "petitions posted on the website 'change.org' have no legal force."

Others doubt that the fire was caused by intentional arson.

"I really regret about your grief, but let's be honest: the fire was provoked by local residents, for whom garbage bulks in the streets have become a usual thing," Nikolai Bibik wrote.

At the school No. 5, where a temporary accommodation centre is located, payments to the fire victims are made from the city and regional budgets, reported Maria Davydova in the group "Rostov" on Facebook.

"VKontakte" users from Rostov have expressed their willingness to provide the fire victims with the essentials, clothes, food, medicines, mobile phones, and furniture.
