Prosecutor's Office challenges verdict to man sentenced for killing Magomed Nurbagandov

The decision of the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan to sentence Aziz Jamalutdinov to 17 years of imprisonment in a penal colony on the charge of killing police officer Magomed Nurbagandov has been challenged in connection with the softness of the punishment. This has been reported by the Prosecutor's Office for Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 10, 2016, in the village of Sergokala, two young men were shot and killed, including police officer Magomed Nurbagandov. On August 12, in the vicinity of Izberbash, a car of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) was shelled, and two policemen were killed. Later, in a mobile phone, belonging to one of the militants killed in the course of the special operation in Izberbash, law enforcers found a video showing how Magomed Nurbagandov was shelled and killed.

"The Court sentenced Aziz Jamalutdinov to 17 years of imprisonment, a fine of 100,000 roubles and restriction of freedom for two years. The Prosecutor's Office for Dagestan has filed an appeal against the verdict in connection with the excessive softness of the punishment," the website of the Prosecutor's Office for Dagestan reports today.

No comments regarding the verdict have been voiced by the sentenced man or his defence. Earlier, the father of the defendant has stated that his son tried to dissuade other members of the militant grouping from killing Magomed Nurbagandov. "But they did not listen to him," the Aziz Jamalutdinov's father said.
